How does a Herdshare work?
In a herdshare agreement, people buy shares of a milking herd and pay the farmer to care for and milk the animals. As owners, the shareholders are entitled to the dairy produced by their animals.
Why is our milk better?
Clean raw milk from grass-fed cows is filled with healthy amino acids and beneficial enzymes. Our dairy products contain no fillers, added hormones, preservatives or unnatural chemicals. In addition, we now bottle all milk and cream in glass bottles.
How are our cows raised?
Our Jersey-cross cows are raised on pastures of native grasses and legumes. They lay around in the sunshine and explore the woodlands. They truly live the good life.
What is the cost of hershare ownership?
A weekly gallon of whole or skim milk is $11.50 and a half gallon is $5.75. We also offer cream by the pint, handmade butter by the pound, either salted with pink Himalayan salt or unsalted, and coffee-milk by the pint or half-gallon.
How is the milk distributed?
We have fresh dairy drop off locations in the greater Richmond region and surrounding areas. There are set drop off days for different locations. Once the milk has been delivered, the shareholders swing by and pick up their dairy at their earliest convenience. The milk comes in 1/2 gallon glass milk bottles, and cream in glass pint containers. When our members pick up their fresh milk each week, they can leave their clean, empty bottle(s) at the drop location.
